Farewell and Very Best Wishes to Sandra Murchison

We’re all so sad that Sandra, Julian and the twins are moving away, but we hope for all the best as they settle into their new lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Sandra will be the chair of the Art Department at Eastern Michigan University (with about 25 studio, art education, and art history faculty), and Julian will be the chair of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology. Sandra arrived at Millsaps as an assistant professor in 1999 and rose in the ranks to become full professor in 2010. She received the Millsaps Distinguished Professor Award in 2013, a sign of her many professional achievements as a printmaker and painter and an indication of how beloved she is by her students. A major achievement of Sandra’s was the founding of Purple Word Center for Book and Paper Arts in 2013, which she directed until its closing this month.
